Miami County tourism will be highlighted with an event next weekend at the AmericanTrust Circus City Center.
The first-ever expo titled, "Totally Tourism - Discover Treasures in Your Own Back Yard," will kick off National Tourism Week. This is in conjunction with the state-sponsored "Visit Indiana Week."
On May 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be an expo featuring a sample of different tourism-related sites from within Miami County.
"They're going to show off what they're all about," said Marie Radel, the county's tourism coordinator. "People can come and get a glimpse of what's in the county, and have fun."
There will be free popcorn, cotton candy and also door prizes at the event. In addition, attendees will receive a "passport" to be used for a grand prize. To be eligible for the grand prize, visitors must take in three participating tourism sites within the county during "Visit Miami County Week" and get the passport stamped at those places.
The grand prize is "a basket full of Miami County goodies," according to Radel.
"This is mainly for Miami County citizens to rediscover the treasures in our own back yard," Radel added.
Businesses still interested in being part of the expo, as tourism covers both places to visit and places to shop, can contact Radel at the Chamber of Commerce at (765) 472-1923 through Thursday.
Booth cost is $20, and those participating are encouraged to "be creative and have fun with your space."
