Officials are pining on another good turnout for the second and final public forum on Miami County's economic development strategic plan.
The Miami County Economic Development Authority is holding a meeting and open house for public input on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the G.A.R. room at the Miami County Courthouse.
The open house will be from 6 to 6:30 p.m., with a presentation to follow. Jim Tidd, executive director of MCEDA, and officials from HNTB Consultants, a land planning firm, will be asking for public comments.
A team of 12 community leaders including Larry West, Carmine Gentile, Roger Merriman, Jim Walker, Michael Bakehorn, Kurt Krauskopf, Gary Horner, Chuck Oldfather, Gary Hawley, Shirley Mull and Terry Smith, has been formed to design the plan, with the direction of HNTB. They will establish a vision of what kinds of industries they would like to see in Miami County in the next 10-15 years and where that future growth will go, geographically. New industrial parks, retail space, housing and parks will also be discussed, along the with evaluation of existing property to see what improvements can be made.
Around 50 residents attended the committee's initial public forum in March.
MCEDA officials hope to have the plan in place by the end of the summer.
