A few new financial aids are now available through the Miami County Economic Development Authority for business owners and owners-to-be in Miami County.
The first is a grant to assist with registration fees for trade shows. Ten percent of the cost, up to $500, can be obtained through MCEDA by any business representative wanting to attend an out-of-state trade show. Those interested will have to fill out an application from, submit a follow-up report when they return from the event and agree to distribute MCEDA's marketing materials while there.
MCEDA Executive Director Jim Tidd said that if two or more businesses want to attend a trade show together, they can apply for 30 percent of the registration fee, up to $1,000.
The MCEDA board voted in favor of setting aside $5,000 per year of the entity's marketing monies to fund the grants Wednesday.
The second opportunity is a micro-enterprise loan for entrepreneurs trying to start up their own business in Miami County.
It's designed for small business owners who may not be able to qualify for commercial loans.
Those who qualify would be required to attend a Small Business Development Center class, among other things, and up to $10,000 could be available.
