Miami County Economic Development Group Aviation

Miami County has identified an opportunity for aircraft maintenance and re-manufacturing due in part to the realignment of Grissom Air Force Base in 1994. As a result of the realignment Miami County Economic Development Authority has ownership of properties and acreage that have runway access. The base facilities coupled by the machining labor base and A&P licensed training programs available at Ivy Tech, Vincennes, Purdue, and Notre Dame, provide competitive advantage for attracting aircraft maintenance operations.

With the longest runway in the state of Indiana at 12,500 ft. (KGUS) is centrally located but provides less congestion than Indianapolis, Chicago, Cincinnati, Detroit and other major airports in the region. There is a 40 year joint use agreement with an onsite fixed based operator to make Grissom Aeroplex ready and able to handle all aviation business needs.
